RAMAYANA TRAIL
Day 1: Air Port / Chilaw / Ritigala / Habarana ( According to the Arrival Flight )

& proceed to Habarana via Chilaw .
Visit Munneswaram Temple
It is believed that Munneswaram predates the Ramayana and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva was located here.
Visit Manawari Temple
Manavari is the first lingam installed and prayed by Lord Rama and till date this lingam is called as Ramalinga Shivan . Rameshwaram is the only other lingam in the world named after Lord Rama.
Transfer to Ritigala.
Ritigala has 70 caves that have been used as dwellings by the earliest inhabitants of Sri Lanka and subsequently as monasteries.
Ritigala in the Anuradhapura District is associated with the episode in the Ramayana where Hanuman is sent to the Himalayas to fetch medicinal herb to treat the injured Luxshmana.
In the evening proceed to Habarana.

Day 2: Habarana / Sigiriya / Trincomale
After Breakfast at Hotel proceed to Sigiriya Rock.
Climb Sigiriya Rock.
Is home to the “5th century Fortress in the Sky” which is the fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the fortress.
You will be transferred to Trincomalee
Visit Koneshwaram Temple
Myths surrounding the temple of Koneshwaram associate it with the popular Indian epic Ramayana, and its legendary hero-king Rama.

Day 3: Trincomalee / Kandy
After Breakfast at Hotel you will continue your journey to Kandy .
Visit Kandy Temple Of The Tooth Relic
Kandy Temple of The Tooth Relic, also known as Sri Dalada Maligawa. There will be “Maligawa Thewawa” with chanting and worshipping Lord Buddha’s tooth of the relic. A huge crowd comes there to get the blessing of Buddha, every day. Before preparingyour visit keeps in mind that the Maligawa is a Buddhist shrine and make sure to wear attire that covers your shoulders and legs.

Day 4 : Kandy / Hasalaka / Kandy
With packet Breakfast at Hotel , early morning leave to Hasalaka .
Visit Seetha Kotuwa
Sitadevi was kept in queen Mandothari’s palace until she was moved to Seetha Kotuwa and then on to Ashoka Vatika. The remains that are found are the remnants of later civilizations.
This place is now called Sita Kotuwa which means ‘Sita’s Fort’ and got its name because of Sitadevi’s stay here.
Visit Weeraganthota
“place of aircraft landing” in Sinhala. It is believed to be the airport where Sitadevi landed after she was abducted to Lanka in King Ravana’s Pushpaka Vimana. In the surrounding area, now covered by jungle, once was the location of Ravana’s city Lankapura. According to the Ramayana Trail legend the city had a beautiful palace for queen Mandothari or was even the capital Lanka, residence of king Ravana.

Day 5: Kandy / Ramboda / Nuwara Eliya

In the hills of Ramboda where Hanuman was searching for Sita, the Chinmaya Mission of Sri Lanka built the Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple which is visited by thousands of devotees every year.

Visit Hakgala Botanical Garden
The Hakgala Botanical Gardens was one of the pleasure gardens of King Ravana. This garden was expanded during the British period and has a wide variety of flowers including an excellent collection of orchids
Visit Divurumpola
It is situated 15 km from Seetha Eliya on Nuwara-Eliya – Welimada Road. This is the place where Seetha Devi underwent “Agni Pariksha” (test). It is a popular place of worship among locals in this area. Divurumpola means place of oath in Sinhala. The legal system permits and accepts the swearing done at this temple while settling disputes between parties.
Visit Ishtreepura Konda Kattu Gala
Ishtripura means an area of women in Sinhala. This was one of the places to which King Ravana shifted Seetha Devi as a precautionary measure, which he was forced to take by Lord Hanuman’s advent.
Seetha Devi took a bath in the stream close by and had dried her hair sitting on a rock and put clips to her hair, hence this rock is known as Konda Kattu Gala.

These tunnels prove beyond doubt the architectural brilliance of King Ravana. These tunnels served as a quick means of transport through the hills and also as a secret passage and networked all the important cities, airports and dairy farms. A. close look at these tunnels indicates that they are man-made and not natural formations.

Kataragamam temple in Kataragama, is a temple complex dedicated to Buddhist guardian deity Kataragama deviyo and Hindu War God Murugan. It is one of the few religious sites in Sri Lanka that is venerated by the Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and the Vedda people.

Day 8 : Katharagama / Ussangoda / Rumassala / Galle Or Hikkaduwa
After Breakfast at Hotel , transfer to Ussangoda
Ussangoda is a strange coastal area because of its lack of trees. Its serpentine rock contains toxic heavy metals. Only specific smaller plants were able to adapt to this soil. But according to the Ramayana Trail legends there are two more explanation for the baldness of Ussangoda. After meeting Sitadevi Lord Hanuman provoked the mighty King Ravana and his army of Rakshasas. It resulted in Lord Hanuman’s tail being set on fire by Rakshasas. Hanuman in turn went on to torch parts of King Ravana’s empire with his burning tail. Ussangoda is said to be one of these burnt areas. Besides the Ramayana Trail legend has it that earlier on the Ussangoda plateau was used an airport by King Ravana for his Dandumonara peacock chariot, before Hanuman devastated the landing site.

Day 9 : Galle Or Hikkaduwa / Colombo

Colombo is the capital of Sri Lanka, it has a long history as a port on ancient east-west trade routes, ruled successively by the Portuguese, Dutch and British. That heritage is reflected in its architecture, mixing colonial buildings with high-rises and shopping malls. The imposing Colombo National Museum, dedicated to Sri Lankan history, borders sprawling Viharamahadevi Park and its giant Buddha.
Visit Fort, the former British administrative center and military garrison, where is also a Hindu Temple with elaborate stone carvings, and the Dutch Church of Wolfen dhal dating back to 1749. Also visit the BMICH,Old Parliament , see the replica of Avukana Buddha and Independence Square. Colombo’s most absorbing area is the Pettah, a tumultuous bazaar district that is still the scene of much of the city’s vibrant commercial life.
